You may be interested to learn of a National Pilot project being developed in South-East Galway. The project which is irish government funded is based on a simple idea: that instead of waiting for people of Irish Heritage to come back to Ireland to trace their roots, we go the other way. Village by Village, parish by parish, we find out who left and trace them and their descendants around the world.
The Ireland Reaching Out project are holding an inaugural 'week of welcomes' festival from June 26th to July 2nd this year where people connected to the area are invited back to meet the local communities, learn about how their people once lived and become part of a greater virtual community connected online. If your roots are in South-East Galway, you can find out more information by registering on the programme website at www.irelandxo.org
